KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’, 336-323 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 26 mm, 17.24 g, 11 h), Memphis, struck under Ptolemy I as satrap, circa 323. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress. Rev. AΛEΞANΔPOY Zeus seated left on low throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and eagle standing right with closed wings in his right; to left, rose; below throne, ΔI-O. Price 3971. A beautifully toned example of this prestigious issue. Small old scuff on the obverse edge, otherwise, good very fine.
